dappe はデンマーク語の動詞。意味は「ゆっくり、くつろいで歩く」。日曜日に部屋着のまま、家の中をのんびり歩き回るような時間のことです。発音は「ダッベ」。

ついでに、茨城弁では「だっぺ」。「そうでしょ」「それでいいっぺ」。北欧のくつろぎに、肩の力が抜けた肯定をひとつ添えた、ささやかなしゃれです。

シンボルは盥タライ。木の桶に水を張り、縁は少しだけ傾いている。手でつくったものの愛嬌を、私たちはあえて直しません。

dappe is a Danish verb: to walk slowly and at ease. The kind of time you spend wandering around the house in your robe on a Sunday. Pronounced "dah-beh."

As it happens, dappe is also Ibaraki dialect in Japan, meaning "right?" or "that'll do." A relaxed yes, folded into a Nordic stroll. A small pun we could not resist.

Our symbol is the tarai, a wooden wash tub. The rim sits a few degrees off level. That is the charm of a hand-made thing, and we leave it that way on purpose.
